Emergency Locksmith Services — 24/7, 20-Minute Response
Being locked out of your home, office, or commercial premises is one of the most stressful situations you can face — especially late at night, in cold weather, or with children waiting. Our emergency locksmith service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, with a target response time of 20 minutes across our coverage areas. We never charge a call-out fee, and all prices are quoted upfront before any work begins.
What Counts as a Locksmith Emergency?
Our emergency service covers any situation where you are unable to access or secure your property. The most common calls we receive include:
- Locked out of your home — key lost, forgotten, snapped in the lock, or left inside
- Key broken in the lock — the key shears inside the cylinder, making entry impossible
- Lock seized or jammed — the mechanism has failed and will not operate even with the correct key
- Burglary damage — a lock forced during a break-in that needs immediate securing
- Door blown shut — a uPVC or composite door with a multipoint lock that has latched itself with the key inside
- Lock failure after a storm — rain or frost has seized an external cylinder
- Eviction or tenant dispute — emergency lock changes where immediate re-securing is required by law
- Commercial premises lockout — staff locked out of shops, offices, or warehouses at the start of the working day
How Our Emergency Locksmith Process Works
When you call us, our dispatcher will take your location, describe the situation, and give you an honest estimate of arrival time. Our engineers are mobile throughout their coverage area at all times — they are not dispatched from a depot. This means the 20-minute response we advertise is genuine for the vast majority of our coverage, not an aspiration.
On arrival, our engineer will assess the situation and advise on the best method of entry. In the majority of cases, we can open a door non-destructively — meaning your existing lock is undamaged and no replacement is required. Where the lock is too damaged to open cleanly, or where a cylinder must be drilled as a last resort, we carry a full stock of replacement cylinders and can re-secure your door immediately at the same visit.
Non-Destructive Entry
The primary technique for most residential lockouts is lock picking or lock manipulation — gaining entry by manipulating the lock mechanism without damaging it. Skilled locksmiths can open the majority of standard Yale and mortice locks this way. For anti-snap, anti-pick cylinders of the type required by most UK insurers, specialist bypass tools are used. Our engineers are trained and equipped for the full range of UK lock types, from Victorian cast-iron rim locks to the latest Ultion or Yale Platinum cylinders.
Destructive entry — drilling the cylinder — is always a last resort and is only used when non-destructive methods would take longer than drilling and replacing, or when the cylinder has already been damaged. We will always explain why a cylinder needs to be drilled before we proceed, and we carry a full range of replacement cylinders to re-secure the door immediately.
Prices for Emergency Lockout
Our emergency callout price depends on the time of day, the lock type, and whether a replacement is needed. All prices are given upfront before we start, and we do not charge a call-out fee in addition to the job price. Typical prices for non-destructive entry with no cylinder replacement start from £59. Night-time and weekend rates apply from 9pm to 7am, and at weekends. We will always give you the exact price before we begin.
What to Do While You Wait
If you are locked out, make sure you are somewhere safe and warm while waiting. Do not attempt to force the door, break a window, or use improvised tools — these approaches almost always cause more damage and increase the total cost. If you are in danger or the property has been burgled, call the police on 999 first.
Have the following ready when our engineer arrives: proof of residence (a driving licence, bank statement, or utility bill with your name and address). This is standard practice and protects you — a professional locksmith will always request ID before opening a door.
Emergency Lock Changes After a Break-In
If your property has been burgled, a lock change is almost always the immediate priority. A forced lock cannot be relied upon to secure the property, and insurance policies generally require that compromised locks are replaced before cover continues. Our engineers carry the full range of British Standard BS3621 anti-snap cylinders and deadlocks, and can complete an emergency lock change within an hour of arriving on site. We can provide a written receipt confirming the locks fitted, which satisfies most insurers.
Coverage and Availability
We cover 90 postcode areas across England. Our engineers are local to their coverage areas — this is not a national call centre dispatching engineers from 40 miles away. A locksmith answering a Blackpool call will be in the Blackpool area; a locksmith answering a Bristol call will be in Bristol. This local presence is why we can genuinely offer a 20-minute response, and why we have the local knowledge that makes a difference when dealing with the specific housing stock and lock types in your area.
