What data we collect and why
We collect the minimum personal data needed to provide our locksmith services:
- Name and contact details (phone number, sometimes email address) — to confirm your booking, provide a quote, and follow up after a job.
- Service address — the property we attend. We do not retain this after the job is complete unless required for warranty purposes.
- Call recordings — calls to 0330 341 4041 may be recorded for quality and training purposes. You will be informed at the start of the call.
- Usage data — anonymous analytics data (pages viewed, session duration) collected via Google Analytics 4. This does not identify you personally.
- Enquiry content — if you contact us via our contact form, we retain your message to respond to your enquiry.
Legal basis for processing
- Contract — processing your name, contact details, and address is necessary to fulfil the locksmith service you have requested.
- Legitimate interests — analytics and quality monitoring help us improve our service. We balance these interests against your privacy rights.
- Consent — for non-essential cookies and marketing communications, where applicable.
How long we keep your data
- Job records (name, service address, work completed) — 6 years, in line with HMRC requirements and our 12-month warranty obligation.
- Enquiries that did not lead to a booking — 12 months.
- Call recordings — 90 days, then deleted.
- Analytics data — aggregated and anonymised; individual sessions are not retained beyond 14 months.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data. We may share it only with:
- Google LLC — for analytics (Google Analytics 4) and tag management (Google Tag Manager). Google processes data on our behalf under a Data Processing Agreement.
- Call tracking providers — to attribute calls to marketing channels. Call data is anonymised at the provider level before we access it.
- Accountants / legal advisers — only where required for tax or legal compliance, under strict confidentiality.
We do not transfer your data outside the UK or EEA without appropriate safeguards in place.
Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Erasure — ask us to delete your data where there is no legitimate reason to retain it.
- Restriction — ask us to pause processing while a complaint is resolved.
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@locksmith1.co.uk. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk · 0303 123 1113.
