A stiff key, a mechanism that sometimes jams or a handle that has dropped slightly are often repair jobs. A repair costs less than a new lock, and the engineer tells you how long it will take before starting.
Typical repairs: a stiff or seized cylinder that needs cleaning and adjusting; a worn lever mechanism in a mortice lock; a key snapped in the barrel, which can often be extracted without changing the cylinder. A uPVC multipoint lock is different. A failed gearbox usually needs replacing, and the engineer confirms this after looking at the door.
Some faults cannot be repaired: a cylinder that has been drilled, a cracked mortice case, or a uPVC door with stripped fixings around the lock pocket. The engineer explains why a repair would not last and quotes for a replacement.
Lock repair starts from £46.80 (£39 + VAT). The price is agreed on the phone before anyone sets off. If a part has to be ordered, the engineer tells you before any work starts.
