Safe opening — what we can do and when we’d say we can’t.
Safe opening is a specialist job that sits outside what most locksmiths can actually do well. Opening a safe without the combination or key requires either knowing the specific safe design well enough to manipulate it, or knowing exactly where and how to drill without destroying the locking mechanism. Getting it wrong means a damaged safe that now needs to be cut open entirely, which costs more.
We open safes by manipulation (working through the combination lock without a code) or by scoping (a small drill hole and a scope to view the internals). The method depends on the safe type and its age. Manipulation is slower and leaves the safe undamaged and fully functional. Scoping requires a small drill hole — the safe works after, but there’s a hole. Cutting is a last resort and means the safe is usually not reusable.
Combination changes, key replacements, and electronics repairs to digital safes are also things we handle. If a battery has died in an electronic safe and locked you out, that’s often solvable without any drilling at all.
What we’ll always do: quote before we start and be honest about which method we’re going to use and why. If a particular type of safe is beyond our equipment, we’ll say so rather than attempt something that damages it.
Why customers choose us
- ✓Manipulation first, drilling last
We try to open without damage before considering any invasive technique. Most residential safes can be manipulated.
- ✓Honest about what we can do
If your safe type is beyond our kit or capability, we’ll tell you and recommend a specialist rather than damage it in the attempt.
- ✓All safe types
Key, combination, electronic, biometric. Residential and commercial. We’ve dealt with most makes including Burton, Chubb, Sentry, Brattonsound and Yale.
- ✓Combination change and electronics repair
After opening, we can reset combinations, cut new keys, or replace faulty electronic lock modules.
- ✓Proof of ownership required
We always verify identity and ownership before opening any safe. This protects everyone.
