When to do a lock change, and which lock to fit.
People usually book a lock change after moving in, after a break-in or attempted break-in, when a key has been lost or a relationship has ended, or when the lock is worn and failing. Which lock goes in matters more than the reason.
Many uPVC and composite doors have a euro cylinder. A standard euro cylinder can be snapped in under 30 seconds, and lock snapping is one of the most common ways burglars attack uPVC doors. A TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinder, supplied and fitted from £106.80 (£89 + VAT), is built to resist that attack.
Home insurance is the other thing to check. BS3621 is the standard many policies name for final exit doors, and the wording differs between policies. The engineer can tell you whether the lock you have is a BS3621 lock.
The engineer tells you how long the job will take before starting, once they have seen the lock and the door. If a part has to be ordered, you are told before any work starts. Supply and fit starts from £105.60 (£88 + VAT).
