What this actually involves

Lockouts are stressful. Here’s how we handle them.

Most lockouts have a simple cause: keys inside, mechanism jammed, or the door’s deadlocked and nobody’s home with a spare. A few are more complicated — a broken key in the barrel, a UPVC door that’s gone into security mode, a landlord situation where we need to see proof of occupancy first. We deal with all of these daily.

The first thing we try on any lockout is non-destructive entry. That means picking, bypassing, or using letterbox techniques to release a snib — no drilling, no damage, lock stays intact. It works on roughly 9 in 10 standard front doors. When it doesn’t work, we stop and tell you exactly why before we touch anything that can’t be undone.

We charge the same rate day and night. No “out of hours” multiplier, no surprise call-out fee added at the end. If you call at 2am and we quote you £89, that’s what you pay. That’s not standard across the industry — some companies significantly inflate prices for late-night jobs when they know you’re stuck — so it’s worth saying explicitly.

Once you’re in, we’ll also check the lock is working correctly and advise if it needs replacing. If the mechanism is failing, we’ll say so. If your lock is fine and a new key cut solves the problem, we’ll say that too.

Common questions

About emergency locksmith.

Almost never. Our first attempt is always non-destructive — picking, bypass tools, or letterbox techniques. Drilling is a last resort and only happens when the lock is already faulty or there's no other way in.

Yes. For security, we ask for photo ID and proof of address (a utility bill or bank statement works) before we open any door. This protects you as much as anyone.

Yes, though these take longer. UPVC multipoint systems can sometimes deadlock themselves if the door hasn't closed properly before being locked. We have specific bypass tools for the most common makes.

Not always. If you're certain the keys are genuinely lost rather than stolen, and there's no identifying information attached to them, you can get away with re-keying the lock rather than replacing it entirely. If there's any chance someone knows your address, change the lock.

Zero. We don't charge a call-out fee. You pay for the job, not for us turning up. That price is agreed before any work starts.
