Changing Locks in Reading: What It Actually Costs and How Long It Takes

How long does a lock change take?
A single cylinder replacement on a standard front door typically takes 20 to 30 minutes. A full lock change on a five-lever mortice takes slightly longer. A uPVC multipoint door where the gearbox also needs inspection could take an hour. We’ll give you an estimate on the call based on what you describe, and we’ll call ahead if it’s going to take significantly longer than quoted. We won’t leave a job half-finished — if we start a lock change, we complete it and test it before we leave.
What about insurance requirements?
Most UK home insurance policies now specify that external locks must meet BS3621 standard — that’s five-lever mortice locks or TS007 3-star cylinders with a handle rated to TS007 3-star. If your existing lock doesn’t meet that standard, you may have a problem with a claim if you’re burgled. We can tell you whether your current locks meet the requirement and supply and fit compliant alternatives if not.
