What this actually involves

Commercial locksmith work — what’s different about it.

Commercial jobs are different from residential in a few ways. The locks tend to be more varied (mortice, rim, cylinder, padlock, electronic), the premises have more access points, and there are usually multiple users with different access rights rather than one household. Getting locked out of an office at 7am before a full day of business is a different kind of urgent than a residential lockout.

We handle commercial lockouts, lock changes, master key system installation and service, access control for offices and warehouses, and re-keying after staff changes. If someone leaves a company and takes a key, re-keying the affected locks or moving to a master key system with restricted keys is the right response — not ignoring it.

Master key systems let different keyholders access different areas with a single key, while a master key opens all of them. Done properly, this is a significant security and operational improvement for businesses with multiple access zones. Done poorly, with generic cylinders, it creates security gaps. We design and install master key systems using restricted key cylinders, which can’t be copied without a registered card from the manufacturer.

For landlords, letting agents and property managers: we do a lot of between-tenancy lock changes, HMO compliance work, and emergency access. We provide VAT receipts for everything and can give job reports for your records if needed.

Why businesses choose us

Reliable, insured, DBS-checked — every time.

Every Locksmith1 engineer is DBS-checked, fully insured for commercial premises, and carries a broad range of commercial-grade lock stock. We invoice with VAT receipts, and our engineers carry business liability insurance as standard.

We service sole traders through to property management companies and FM contractors — accounts available for regular commercial clients.

For emergency commercial lockouts, we aim to arrive within 20 minutes in most UK cities. We can open most commercial doors non-destructively, preserving your door hardware and avoiding costly frame damage.

After a lockout, we can carry out an immediate security review and recommend cylinder changes, high-security deadbolts or access control upgrades to prevent recurrence.

Common questions

About commercial locksmith.

Re-key the affected locks or, if you're already on a restricted key system, record the key as lost and issue a new one. If it's a non-restricted cylinder, copying is easy and cheap, so re-keying is the safer choice. We can do this quickly and provide documentation.

A master key system lets different staff have different access levels — a cleaner can open cleaning areas but not the server room, a manager can open everything. If you have more than 10-15 staff across multiple access zones, it's worth considering. We can assess your premises and design a system to your requirements.

Restricted cylinders have a key profile that's registered to a specific system. New keys can only be cut at an authorised dealer using a security card. This means an employee who leaves can't just go to a key cutting kiosk and copy their key. It's a meaningful security upgrade over standard cylinders.

Usually, yes — if it uses a standard restricted cylinder profile we carry. Some proprietary systems (certain Mul-T-Lock or ASSA Abloy configurations) require specific authorisation from the system owner. We can assess what you have and advise.

Yes. High-security lock work (Chubb, Banham, mul-T-lock, ABLOY) is something we do. These jobs take longer and may require advance notice to source parts, but we handle them.

We can fix the lock the same day for most standard commercial doors. If the door frame is damaged and the door won't sit correctly, the repair may take longer or require a carpenter as well. We'll assess on arrival and be honest about what's realistic.
