Truro British Standard Lock Fitting — What Your Insurer Actually Requires
If you’re in Truro and your insurer has flagged a lock compliance issue, or you’re renewing a policy and want to make sure you’re covered, this is straightforward. We visit, assess all your external locks, tell you which meet BS3621 and which don’t, and fit compliant replacements at the same visit if needed. We serve the full TR area plus Falmouth, Redruth, St Austell, Penryn and beyond.
What BS3621 actually means
BS3621 is the British Standard for thief-resistant locks. It covers five-lever mortice deadlocks for timber doors and sets minimum requirements for anti-drill, anti-pick, and anti-saw performance. Most standard insurance policies require at least one BS3621 lock on every external door, though some policies now also require TS007 3-star rated cylinders on euro-profile lock types. We know exactly which products meet each standard and can confirm compliance in writing.
Mortice locks versus cylinders
The main split is between traditional mortice locks (fitted into the edge of a timber door) and cylinder-operated mechanisms (used on uPVC and composite doors and on night latch systems). For timber doors, a BS3621 five-lever mortice deadlock is the standard requirement. For cylinder-based locks, TS007 3-star cylinders with a matched door handle or escutcheon are required. These are different products with different fitting methods — we bring stock of both.
