What we do.

uPVC Door Lock Repair and Replacement in Bath

uPVC doors are everywhere in Bath — most of the Georgian terraces and Victorian townhouses that was built or refurbished from the 1990s onwards will have them. The locking mechanism is more complex than a traditional deadbolt: multiple hooks and deadbolts operated by a central gearbox, all driven by a single euro cylinder. When any part of that system fails, the door either won’t open or won’t close properly — and the fix depends entirely on which part has gone. We diagnose and repair across all of BA and the surrounding areas: Bradford-on-Avon, Frome, Keynsham, Radstock.

Diagnosing a uPVC door fault

The diagnosis determines the repair. A cylinder that’s been snapped (a common forced-entry technique) is a straightforward replacement. A gearbox that’s seized or broken internally needs the right replacement gearbox for that specific door brand — they’re not interchangeable. A misalignment problem (where the hooks no longer reach the keeps) is often caused by the door dropping on its hinges, which is an adjustment rather than a lock repair. We test all three possibilities before recommending anything.

Anti-snap upgrade

If we’re replacing a cylinder on any uPVC door, we’ll recommend upgrading to an anti-snap cylinder at the same time. The original cylinders fitted to most uPVC doors from the 1990s and 2000s can be snapped in seconds with basic tools. Anti-snap cylinders have a sacrificial section that breaks off at the snap point, leaving the lock mechanism completely intact and the door still secured. The upgrade costs relatively little on top of a standard cylinder replacement.

Why customers in Bath choose us

  • Correct diagnosis, not assumption

We test before we recommend. The cylinder, gearbox, and frame alignment are all checked before any part is touched.

  • Anti-snap upgrade standard

Any cylinder we replace comes with an anti-snap recommendation as standard.

  • Common gearboxes on the van

We carry stock of the most commonly needed replacement gearboxes for same-visit repair.

  • No unnecessary replacements

If adjustment or minor repair will fix it, that’s what we’ll recommend.

  • 12-month warranty

On all fitted parts and labour.

Common questions

uPVC Door Lock in Bath — FAQs.

Yes. Every engineer holds a current DBS (criminal record) certificate and will show photo ID on arrival.

12 months on all parts and labour. Written certificate emailed after every job. If anything isn’t right, we come back free of charge.

Usually the handle spindle or the gearbox. A dropped handle that no longer operates the latch means the spindle connection has failed — the handle can’t drive the mechanism. This is a repairable fault in most cases.

The most likely cause is a cylinder fault: either the cam has worn so the cylinder turns without driving the gearbox, or the cylinder itself has been partially snapped. We’ll check both on arrival.

Yes. The euro cylinder is a standard replaceable component. We can fit a new anti-snap cylinder and key it to whatever keys you want. If you want multiple doors on the same key, we can usually arrange that too.

Usually 45-60 minutes once we’ve confirmed the correct replacement. The door panel needs to be removed to access the gearbox, and it then needs to be tested fully before we leave. We won’t rush this job.

Probably not — it’s a frame or hinge problem. uPVC and composite doors can expand slightly in summer. Often the hinges just need adjustment. We’ll tell you on arrival whether it’s the lock, the hinges, or the frame, and quote accordingly.
